Important Information About Annulments
-
As opposed to a divorce, an annulment is a court proceeding that asks the court to pretend as though the marriage never happened.
-
If he court rules that the marriage never happened, then you do not have to worry about any of your property being divided on marital grounds. That is the biggest advantage of an annulment.
-
In order to qualify for an annulment you must first be filing for the annulment within two (2) years from date of marriage. You must also prove to the court that there was some kind of fraud, duress, or other specific ground for annulment.
-
This can vary depending on whether the other side agrees to the annulment or disputes the reason for the annulment. An agreed annulment is much faster than a contested case.
